Why Tajweed matters
Tajweed is the science of giving every Arabic letter its right sound, length and quality when reciting the Quran. Many people read fluently for years yet repeat small mistakes in pronunciation. A structured online Tajweed course corrects those habits so your recitation becomes accurate, steady and beautiful.
Makharij: where each letter comes from
Makharij al-huruf are the points of articulation in the throat, tongue, lips and nasal passage. In class, your teacher listens to letters that are easily confused, such as seen and saad, or haa and haa with a lighter sound, and trains your mouth to produce each clearly.
Sifat: the qualities of letters
Sifat describe how a letter sounds, such as heavy or light, with or without echo, or with a breath of air. Learning sifat helps you understand why some letters are recited with fullness and others with softness.
Rules of noon saakin, tanween and meem saakin
These rules decide whether a sound is merged, clearly pronounced, hidden or given a nasal hum. Our online Tajweed lessons teach idhaar, idghaam, iqlaab and ikhfa with many short examples from the Quran until you can apply them without thinking.
Madd, qalqalah and rules of stopping
You will learn how long to stretch vowels, how to echo letters like qaaf and daal when they are silent, and how to stop and restart correctly at the end of verses.
How our online Tajweed course is taught
Each lesson has three parts: the rule is explained simply, the teacher recites an example, and you recite it back for correction. Homework is a short passage to practise daily, which is then checked in the next class.
Learn Quran online with Tajweed: levels
Beginners first complete correct reading, then learn basic rules. Intermediate students study the full set of rules with application. Advanced students refine fluency and prepare for Hifz or teaching.
Free Tajweed classes for all ages
Children, women and adults can all join. Women may choose female teachers, and children get shorter, friendlier sessions.
Common Tajweed mistakes we correct
Typical mistakes include mixing heavy and light letters, shortening or over-stretching madd, pronouncing noon saakin the same way every time and stopping where the verse should continue. These habits are normal and fixable. A teacher hears them, names them and gives you a short drill until the correct sound becomes automatic.
Tajweed, tarteel and qirat: what is the difference
Tajweed is the set of rules for correct pronunciation. Tarteel is reciting calmly and clearly. Qirat refers to the authentic ways of reciting the Quran; most readers in Pakistan recite according to Hafs from Asim. Our classes focus on correct Tajweed in the recitation you already use.
A fifteen-minute daily Tajweed plan
Spend three minutes warming up with the letters you find difficult, seven minutes reading a page while applying one rule, three minutes recording yourself and listening back, and two minutes noting questions for your teacher. Small daily practice beats a long weekly session.
Using a colour-coded Mushaf
A colour-coded Tajweed Mushaf marks rules such as ikhfa or qalqalah in different colours. It is helpful for beginners, but you should still learn the rules by name, because the colours guide the eye while the teacher trains the ear.
Tajweed before and during Hifz
Memorizing with wrong pronunciation fixes the error in your memory. That is why we recommend a Tajweed foundation before Hifz and continuing Tajweed revision during it.
Practising makharij with simple drills
Say the letter with a short vowel, then repeat it in three positions: beginning, middle and end of a word. Record and compare with your teacher's recitation. Drill pairs such as seen and saad, or taa and taa-with-emphasis, a few minutes daily until the difference is clear to your ear.
Learning the rules of stopping and starting
Knowing where to stop is part of Tajweed. Your teacher will show you the common stopping signs in the Mushaf and how to restart without changing the meaning. Practise with the last pages of the Quran first, as the verses are short and easy to repeat.
How we check Tajweed progress
Each month the teacher listens to a passage you have not prepared and notes which rules you applied correctly. This shows what has become automatic and what still needs drills, and sets the focus for the next month.
Tajweed for adults who started late
Adults often worry that it is too late to learn Tajweed properly. It is not. Adults have the advantage of discipline and understanding, and with ten to fifteen minutes of daily practice and regular correction they steadily improve. Begin with the surahs you recite in Salah, since improvement there is felt immediately, and do not compare yourself with children who learned young.
Choosing a reciter to listen to
Listening is half of Tajweed. Choose one clear, slow reciter and listen to the same passage you are learning, several times, before reciting it yourself. Avoid changing reciters every day, as this can confuse a beginner. Ask your teacher to recommend a recitation suited to your level, and compare your own recording with it after each week.
